A length of black yarn

This is one of my favorite Halloween crafts for kids. It is quick and simple, can be done with a crowd if necessary, and is an excellent way to practice cutting and fine motor skills with younger children. Older kids can let their imaginations take over and create some really wacky spiders!

You will need:

Black paper Scissors Glue or sticky-tape Googly eyes (optional) or scraps of paper and pens

Instructions:

Cut a rectangle of paper approximately 3 inches by 3 1/2 inches. Fold the short side down about an inch to make a crease, then open up again.

Turn the paper so that the crease is horizontal, then cut the paper in 7 straight lines up to the crease to create eight spider's legs. For younger children, draw in the lines for them to practice cutting on. For older children, show them how to make the first cut in the middle, dividing the area below the crease into 2 halves. Then show them how to divide each half again to make quarters, then the quarters to make eighths. There is no need to be too accurate.

Now wrap the spider around the child's finger and fasten with sticky-tape or glue. Remove the spider again and decorate - either with scraps of paper or with googly eyes. Put back on the finger and bend the legs into shape or curl them around a Twisting Yarn pencil.

Variations:

Hang the spiders up! Simply cut a length of black (wool) and attach inside the head of the spider with a small piece of sticky-tape.

Make smaller versions of these spiders to decorate the ends of Halloween pencils.

Wrap small spiders around straws to decorate your Halloween table! Make some bigger spiders and scatter them around the table as well.

Cut a small slit on either side of the spider's head and insert a name card to turn these spiders into spooky place markers!

Once the body of the spider has been made but before decorating, wrap a black pipe cleaner around the head of the spider to give a furry effect. The protruding end of the pipe cleaner can be curled into a hook shape, which makes the spider easy to suspend from shelves, the tops of doors, and other spooky places! Stick googly eyes on top of the pipe cleaner.

Country Christmas Idea: Milkweed Pod Poinsettia Ornaments At first glance, milkweed plants and poinsettias don't seem to have much in common. If you live in an area where milkweed grows wild, however, you can use the dried milkweed pods to make poinsettia ornaments for your Christmas tree. Here's how: 1. Collect some dried milkweed pods. In the fall, the milkweed plants have already gone to seed but the dried pods will still be attached to the plant. You will need six "halves" of a milkweed pod for each poinsettia flower that you are going to make. 2. After you have collected the milkweed pods and have brought them into the house, put them in a warm spot for a few days or a week to dry out more. This is especially important if it has been rainy and damp outside. 3. Glue the milkweed pod halves together side-by-side in a circle so that they look like a flower. A hot glue gun works well for gluing the pods together. 4. Decorate your poinsettia flowers with spray paint and glitter, or, if you don't want to spray paint your poinsettias, just use glue and glitter. Mix and match and experiment with colors. 5. Glue a loop of string, Twisting Yarn, twine or ribbon to the back of the poinsettia flower. Once the glue is dry, your ornament is ready to hang on the Christmas tree. You could also give these as gifts � four or six to set, or however many you want to give.

Last year, I started experimenting with eBay Widgets that resulted in a very profitable online money making business. In this article, I will identify the four key steps that I use to make money online with widgets. Step 2: Choosing the Distribution Platform for Your Widgets One advantage of using eBay Widgets is that they are easily installed on any platform with little effort. My choice publication platform is Blogger, but this online money making process also applies to using Wordpress. Until you become comfortable with this process, I suggest using Blogger since there are no hosting or domain costs. Continuing with the "Blue Yarn" example, you would create a sub-domain on Blogger with the eBay product you are promoting, that is "blueyarn.blogspot.com." Don't worry if the domain is already taken; just add another word to the domain name such as "myblueyarn.blogspot.com" to create a unique name. Step 3: Creating the Widget Posts You will need to create a single post for each product that you are marketing in addition to a post that describes the class of products. Going back to our yarn example, you would create four posts in this order: "The Best Blue Cotton Yarn To Use," "Blue Wool Yarn That Doesn't Itch," "Blue Polyester Yarn for Beautiful Sweaters" and a "Blue Yarn For All Uses." Next, visit togo.ebay.com/affiliates/create/ to create a "single item widget" for the specific products. If possible select an eBay Seller that has a store since the widget specifies an Item Id and eBay Sellers typically relist the same item. Regardless, after 120 days, the item will expire and eBay will not relist the product. By design, eBay provides you the option of what to show once the item becomes delisted. Simply insert the search phrase of the specific item, or in our case, "blue cotton yarn." Make sure that you include your eBay affiliate id so you will get paid. Create a unique campaign for "blue Air Textured Yarn" so that you can monitor your online money making results. Finally, you will need to write two paragraphs in each post. Include buying keywords like "cheap," "low-cost," etc. so that you can direct the reader's attention to the widget. Insert the widget in between the two paragraphs. Do not distract the reader with other forms of advertising. You want them to go to eBay and buy the product so you get paid. Step 4: Promoting Your Widgets Promoting your site is the most important step in this process. Without marketing your site for the proper keywords, your online money making adventure will not be profitable. If you created your posts with specific keywords such as "blue cotton yarn," you should be able to market the site with one or two articles that include links back to your site with the proper keywords. Most of these products have low competition in search engines so you should be able to rank well for them. This simple online wealth creating process of using eBay Widgets is very easy to implement. Typically it takes under 4 hours of work per site to create the content, widgets and to promote it. Results will vary on the products and your promotion capabilities. Many products are seasonal so this gives you 3 to 4 months of lead time to build and promote the site before income starts rolling in.
